When award-winning architect Paris Magdalinos needed a versatile, durable yet visually striking material for two major projects in the Hawke’s Bay, ColorCote® ZRX™ prepainted steel roofing in Metallic Silver provided the perfect solution.
The ambitious HortResearch laboratory complex in Havelock North proved that the right choice had been made – the result of Paris’ inspired design is a stunning facility, nestled amongst the region’s tranquil orchards.
The 25,000m2 buildings are designed for easy expansion and have been grouped around a central courtyard, allowing scientists and technicians to transfer from scientific contemplation to outdoor relaxation in just a few steps. The easy relationship between design and materials is also evident in the curving ColorCote® ZRX™ entranceway.
The Napier Girls High School technology block is another impressive demonstration of Paris’ emphasis on functionality in tandem with visual impact. The threestorey building is suspended high on the brow of the school’s hilly site and brings a modern edge to the historic campus.
The classrooms open to the wide circulation decks, extending the learning spaces beyond the classroom and providing a more relaxed learning environment. Paris’ forward-looking design and innovative use of ColorCote® on this project was recognised by the New Zealand Institute of Architects who presented him with their annual award for Architecture as well as the Resene Colour Award.
ColorCote® ZRX™ is ideal for the hard-wearing demands of research buildings and academic institutions, with excellent corrosion resistance, colour and gloss retention, making it a truly good-looking, long-lasting performer. |
